Claude Pro or Max for Building Websites: Which Plan Do You Need?

If you plan to build websites with Claude, you have to pick a plan. Pro or Max? Both cost real money each month, and the page that explains the plans is full of words like "5x" and "usage limits." Most people just want to know: which one should I buy to build sites for local businesses?

I have run a marketing agency for 15 years and worked with 100+ agency clients. I am not a Claude expert, and I do not work for Anthropic. So I did the plain thing: I read the company's own pricing page and help article, wrote down what they say, and gave you my honest pick.

Facts checked on October 19, 2026. The prices and plan details below come from Claude's pricing page at claude.com/pricing (the older anthropic.com/pricing address sends you there) and from Anthropic's help article on using Claude Code with Pro or Max. The pricing page says that prices and plans are subject to change at Anthropic's discretion and that usage limits apply. Please check the page again before you buy.

The short answer

  • Start with Pro if you are new. It is the lower-cost paid plan, and it includes Claude Code.
  • Move up to Max if you keep hitting your usage limit while you work. Anthropic itself suggests Max 5x for Pro users who consistently hit their limits.
  • Do not count on the Free plan for this job. The pricing page does not list Claude Code with Free.

That is my recommendation, and the rest of this guide shows why.

What the pricing page says (checked October 19, 2026)

Plan Price Usage Claude Code
Free 0 dollars Everyday questions Not listed
Pro 20 dollars a month, or 17 dollars a month if billed yearly (200 dollars up front) At least 5x more usage per 5-hour session than Free Included
Max From 100 dollars a month Choose 5x or 20x the usage of Pro per 5-hour session Included

A few more details from the page:

  • Pro adds more usage, Projects, more Claude models and the ability to hand off and schedule tasks, on top of what Free has.
  • Max adds higher output limits, early access to advanced features and priority access at busy times, on top of Pro.
  • There are also Team and Enterprise plans for companies. You do not need them to start.

I wrote the prices out in words on purpose, so you do not mistake a quote from the page for a promise from me. Prices change.

What "usage limits" means in plain English

Claude does not give you unlimited use on any plan. Anthropic's help article says both Pro and Max have a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit. It also says these limits are shared across Claude and Claude Code, so everything you do in both tools counts against the same pool.

Think of it as a fuel tank. A quick chat uses a little fuel. Building a whole website uses more, because Claude is writing a lot of code and checking its work. When the tank is empty, you wait for it to refill or you move to a bigger plan.

The help article gives a path if you run out: you can wait for the reset, move to a bigger plan, or use extra options Anthropic offers, and it notes that some of those extras are billed separately at standard rates. Read that part carefully so you do not get a surprise charge.

How much usage does one website take?

I do not have a trustworthy number, and I will not make one up. It depends on how big the site is, how many changes you ask for, and how long your chats run. A one-page site for a local business is small. A ten-page site with many rounds of edits is not.

Here is an easy way to find your own number:

  1. Build one small site on Pro.
  2. Watch how much of your session it used. Claude Code has a status command for this.
  3. Build a second and a third.
  4. Compare. Then decide.

That test costs you little and tells you more than any guess from a stranger.

Who should pick Pro

Pro is a good fit if:

  • You are new and building your first few sites.
  • You build one or two sites at a time and can wait for the limit to reset.
  • You want to learn before you spend more.

For most beginners, Pro is enough to find out whether this work is for you. You are also not locked in. The pricing page lists a monthly option.

Who should consider Max

Max is worth a look if:

  • You keep hitting the five-hour or weekly limit on Pro and it slows you down.
  • You build many sites in a row, or run bigger jobs.
  • You use Claude for work all day and need the priority access it lists.

Max comes in two sizes, 5x and 20x the usage of Pro. If you do move up, the 5x size is the natural next step. The help article says Max 5x users who keep hitting limits can consider Max 20x.

A bigger plan does not make Claude any smarter. It gives you more room to work. If you are not hitting limits, you do not need it.

What Claude Pro or Max does not cover

A plan covers your use of Claude. It does not cover the other costs of selling a website:

Where SiteRevive fits

SiteRevive is a separate product with its own price. It does not replace your Claude plan, and your Claude plan does not include SiteRevive.

You pick a trade and a U.S. state. SiteRevive finds local businesses with old or missing websites, checks each site, and takes the owner's email from the business's own website. With Run with your AI, you paste one prompt into Claude. Your own Claude builds a one-page preview site for each business, then drafts or sends a short note from your own inbox. You can choose "drafts only" and send each one yourself.

SiteRevive plans start at $97 a month, plus your own AI plan, which the AI company bills you for. There is no setup fee and nothing to install. There is a 7-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked. It covers local U.S. businesses only, and it does not promise replies or sales.

How much of your Claude plan a run uses depends on how many sites you build and how big they are. Because I have not measured that for you, my advice is the same as above: start on Pro, watch your usage on the first few runs, and move up only if you keep running out. SiteRevive's servers never send email; your own Claude sends from your own account, or saves drafts.

To see the whole idea on one page, visit the SiteRevive home page, or try the free website check on any local business's site.

A simple way to decide

  1. Buy Pro for one month.
  2. Build your first three sites.
  3. If you never run out, stay on Pro.
  4. If you run out often and it costs you time, try Max 5x for a month.
  5. Check the pricing page again before each change. Plans move.

No plan makes a sale for you. Whether an owner says yes depends on your note, your offer and your timing. For the whole path, read how to sell websites to local businesses.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude Pro enough to build websites?

For a beginner building a few one-page sites, Pro is a sensible start. It includes Claude Code. If you keep hitting the session or weekly limit, you can move up to Max.

How much does Claude Pro cost?

On October 19, 2026, Claude's pricing page listed Pro at 20 dollars a month when billed monthly, or 17 dollars a month when billed yearly (200 dollars up front). Prices can change, so check the page.

How much does Claude Max cost?

On October 19, 2026, the pricing page listed Max from 100 dollars a month, with a choice of 5x or 20x the usage of Pro. Check the page for the current price of each size.

Can I build websites with the Free plan?

The pricing page did not list Claude Code with the Free plan, and Free covers everyday questions with lower usage. For building sites for clients, I would not rely on it.

Does Claude Max build better websites than Pro?

Not by itself. Max gives you more usage and some extra features. It is a bigger tank, not a smarter tool. Always read every site before an owner sees it.

Do I need a Claude plan to use SiteRevive?

Yes. SiteRevive plans start at $97 a month and you also need your own Claude plan, which Claude bills you for. SiteRevive's servers never send email; your own Claude sends from your own account, or saves drafts.
