Whole-home & kitchen remodels
Down-to-the-studs kitchens, primary suites, and full interiors in the North End, Bench, and East End housing stock. We keep the good bones, replace the 1970s wiring, and give you a house that works.
Licensed General Contractor · Boise, Idaho
Ironwood is a small general contracting firm that does three things: whole-home remodels, additions, and custom homes in the Treasure Valley. One owner on every job, a fixed-price contract, and a schedule you can actually read.
What we build
We don't do handyman lists or roof-only jobs. We take on whole projects that need permits, drawings, and a crew that shows up in the right order. Starting prices below are real Boise numbers from the last twelve months.
Down-to-the-studs kitchens, primary suites, and full interiors in the North End, Bench, and East End housing stock. We keep the good bones, replace the 1970s wiring, and give you a house that works.
Bump-outs, ADUs, garage conversions, and full second storeys. Engineered, permitted, tied into your existing structure so you can't see the seam from the street.
Ground-up homes on your lot from 1,800 to 5,500 sq ft. You bring an architect or we introduce you to two we trust. We run the build, the budget, and the inspections.
Siding, windows, roofing, and insulation done as one package so the wall actually seals. Usually bundled with a remodel or addition; occasionally on its own for a whole house.
Have drawings but no number? We'll price a set, flag the expensive details, and show you three ways to get closer to your budget before anyone swings a hammer.
One contract, one point of contact. Our in-house designer and a partner architect handle drawings and permits; the crew that prices it is the crew that builds it.
Recent work
Drawn the way we draw them for the crew. Budget bands are the real all-in construction cost at handover, not the number in the first meeting.
Full second floor over a 1926 bungalow. Three bedrooms, two baths, original porch kept and rebuilt to code.
Wall removed between kitchen and dining, steel beam, 9'-6" island, new window wall to the yard. Eleven weeks.
3,900 sq ft single level with a shed roof and a full-height glass living room facing the foothills. Fourteen months, one change order.
Detached 480 sq ft studio with full bath and kitchen. Insulated slab, mini-split, separate meter. Rents on day one.
Attic space opened into a vaulted suite with a walk-in shower on the exterior wall and a real closet. Nine weeks, family stayed in the house.
Full re-side in fiber cement, 22 windows, new roof, and dense-pack insulation. Heating bill dropped by roughly a third the next winter.
How a job runs
Every project moves through the same four stages in the same order. Pick a stage to see what happens, how long it takes, and what you get at the end of it.
Caleb comes to the house, looks at what you've got, and tells you in plain terms what's realistic and roughly what it costs. No sales deck.
Our designer and, for larger work, a partner architect produce the permit set. We price every line of it and hand you a fixed-price contract before anything is ordered.
Our own carpenters frame and finish; licensed subs we've used for years handle electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. You get a Friday walk-through every week and a photo log every day.
Final inspection, a punch list we close in ten working days, and a binder with every warranty, paint code, and as-built drawing. Then we come back at 11 months to fix anything that's settled.
The owner
I started framing for a tract builder in Nampa the summer I turned nineteen and spent eight years learning how houses go together, and how they go wrong when the schedule matters more than the framing. I got my Idaho contractor registration in 2012 and started Ironwood with two carpenters and a used F-250.
We're eleven people now. I still walk every site on Friday, I still price every contract myself, and my cell number is on the contract. That's not a slogan; it's how a fixed-price job stays fixed.
"If it's not on the drawings, we talk before we build it. That one rule has saved more clients more money than anything else we do."
Client reviews
Three of eighty-seven. Every one is from a client whose job we finished; we'll happily put you on the phone with any of them.
"The schedule they gave us in March said we'd be back in the house on October 3rd. We moved in October 1st. I didn't think that happened in construction."
"One change order the whole build, and it was ours. Caleb priced it the same afternoon. The daily photos meant I never had to drive out to check on anything."
"We lived in the house through a kitchen gut. Dust walls every night, broom-clean every evening, and the crew knew our dog's name by day two. Finished a week early."

Where we work
Anywhere within about 35 miles of our shop on Chinden Blvd. That radius keeps our crew on your site by 7 a.m. and lets Caleb make the Friday walk-through on every job.
Questions
Yes, for everything on the drawings and in the selections list. The two things that can move it are a change you ask for, or something we find inside a wall that no one could have seen (rot, an undocumented gas line). Both come to you in writing with a price before we act. Across the last three years, the average change-order total on our jobs has been under 4% of contract.
Usually, for a kitchen or a suite. We put up sealed dust walls with zipper doors, set up a temporary kitchen if you want one, and keep one bathroom working at all times. For whole-home gut jobs and second storeys we'll tell you plainly if moving out for a stretch will save you money and sanity.
Always. We submit, we schedule every inspection, and we're on site when the inspector shows up. Boise, Ada County, Meridian, Eagle, and Canyon County all have different quirks; that's our job, not yours.
A deposit at contract signing (usually 10%), then progress payments tied to visible milestones: foundation, framing, dry-in, drywall, and so on. You're never paying ahead of the work. Final 5% is held until the punch list is closed and you've signed off.
Our own carpenters do demolition, framing, finish carpentry, and cabinet installation. Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, and drywall are licensed subcontractors we've worked with for five to twelve years. You'll meet the lead on each trade before they start.
Two years on workmanship, in writing, plus manufacturer warranties on every product in your binder. We schedule an 11-month visit at handover to fix nail pops, doors that have settled, and anything else that a house does in its first year.
